Pope Francis meets with President Vella of Malta

The President of Malta, George Vella, met with Pope Francis on Thursday in the Vaticanâs Apostolic Palace.
Their encounter lasted just over an hour, with the Pope and the President exchanging gifts.
Pope Francis gave President Vella a bronze sculpture entitled âIntergenerational Dialogue,â as well as a book of his papal magisterium.
The President reciprocated with six All-in-One PCs destined for the Mother of Mercy Clinic, a medical centre set up in St. Peterâs Square that serves people facing financial difficulties.
The Pope made an Apostolic Journey to Malta on April 2-3, 2022, visiting the capital, Valletta, as well as Rabat, Floriana, and the island of Gozo.
âCordialâ talks in Secretariat of State
According to the Holy See Press Office, President Vella met afterwards with Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin and Msgr. Wachowski MirosĹaw StanisĹaw, UnderSecretary for Relations with States.
The talks in the Secretariat of State were âcordialâ and touched on the good relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Malta.
âAttention then turned to various issues of an international nature, with particular attention to the Mediterranean region, the conflicts in Israel and Palestine and in Ukraine, and migration,â said the press release.
