Pope Francis sends message of solidarity on anniversary of Brazil dam tragedy

In a video message sent on Saturday, Pope Francis prays for the 272 brothers and sisters who died in the Brumandinho dam disaster one year ago.

Pope Francis in a video message calls us to pray for those who died of Brumandinho dam collapse and expresses solidarity to the families and victims, support to the Archdiocese and to all the people who are suffering.  Through the intercession of St. Paul, he prays that God may help us to repair and protect our common home.

The 25 January 2019 dam disaster in Brazil’s Brumadinho city resulted in the death of 272 people.  The dam released a mudflow that advanced through the mine's offices, including a cafeteria during lunchtime, along with houses, farms, inns and roads downstream. The dam was owned by the Brazilian mining giant Vale.
