Peru's new President faces big challenges

Princeton trained, former Wall Street banker Pedro Pablo Kuczynski quit on Wednesday amidist  a swirl of corruption accusations which he denies.

Almost before the ink on his resignation letter to Congress was dry, they inaugurated his Vice President Martin Vizcarra, who has pledged to complete the term which ends in three more years.

Twenty four years younger than his flamboyant predecessor, fifty five year old Vizcarra,  who's an engineer is stern in appearance,  reputed to be a good listener and a clear thinker.

He needs all his wits about him, as Peru is due to host the Summit of the Americas in less than three weeks, with President Donald Trump, as one of the guests.

Vizcarra is calling for a new beginning, to set aside differences, define goals and vows his number one task will be combatting corruption, so real and sustained growth can be achieved.

That might mean a trial for ex President Kuczynski, somewhere down the road, as he no longer has immunity from prosecution.
