Pope receives Slovenian President Borut Pahor in audience

Pope Francis meets with the President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, on Monday morning at the Vatican's Apostolic Palace.

Pope Francis, on Monday, received in audience the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Mr. Borut Pahor, at the Apostolic Palace.

The Slovenian leader subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by the Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

A statement from the Holy See Press Office said the discussions were cordial and that they took place in the Secretariat of State in the context of the thirtieth anniversary of the recognition of Slovenia by the Holy See and the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The two men expressed appreciation for the positive bilateral relations and the ongoing dialogue between the Church and Slovenian civil authorities.

The talks also focused on various matters of international and regional natures, such as regional cooperation, the enlargement of the European Union to the western Balkan countries, and the situation in Ukraine.
