Pope Francis stood before a deserted St Peter's Square to deliver an extraordinary Urbi et orbi blessing for an end to the coronavirus pandemic. There, accompanied by the icon of Mary Salus Populi Romani and the crucifix from the church of San Marcello, he asked the faithful to turn to Jesus and hand Him their fears, so that He may conquer them.
"Embracing the Lord in order to embrace hope: that is the strength of faith, which frees us from fear and gives us hope.”
