Pope Francis has named Bishop Gregory Bittman, and auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Edmonton, as the new Bishop of Nelson, BC, Canada, following the resignation of Bishop John Corriveau, O.F.M. Cap.

Curriculum vitae of Gregory John Matthew Bittman

Bishop Gregory Bittman was born on 5 March 1961 in Edmonton. Prior to studying for the priesthood he obtained degrees in nursing, and worked in the profession for some time.

His initial priestly formation took place at the Christ the King Seminary, operated by the Benedictines in Mission, British Columbia, where he obtained the degree of Master of Divinity. Bittman later obtained the Licetiate in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America.

He was ordained to the priesthood on 15 August 1996 for the Archdiocese of Edmonton, Alberta.

Following his ordination, Fr Bittman served as Administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Gibbons (1996-1997); Pastor of Our Lady of the Prairies in Daysland (1997-1999); Pastor of Christ the King in Settler, and of Our Lady of Grace in Castor (1999-2000); Pastor of St Agnes and St Anthony in Edmonton (2000-2001). Since 2000 he has been the Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Edmonton, and in 2009 he was named Judicial Vicar.

Gregory Bittman was appointed an auxiliary Bishop for Edmonton on 14 July 2012, and consecrated two months later on 2 September.
