Cardinal Tagle to lead walk against killings

The Council of the Laity in the Philippines is organizing its annual “Walk for Life” on Feb 24 to protest the continued killings in the country and to pray for the conversion of those behind it.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will lead the “Walk for Life” march and celebrate Mass at the Quirino Grandstand, Manila on Feb 24, to protest the continued killings in the country.

In a press briefing on Monday, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo, who chairs the Bishops’ commission on the Laity said the annual walk is for the life of every person who has been a victim of “this culture of death”

Organized by the Council of the Laity in the Philippines, the walk is not only to condemn “the wrong that is being done” but also to pray for the conversion of those behind it, said Bishop Pabillo. The Church will not be silenced until all unexplained killings of drug suspects stop completely and perpetrators are brought to justice, he added.

The “Walk for Life” will also be held in other dioceses, such as in the Archdioceses of Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, San Pablo and Tarlac, among others.

The Walk for life initiative is an annual event led by the CBCP an expression of support for the sanctity and preservation of life.  An unexpected crowd of more than 20,000 people joined the Walk for Life rally in 2017 which was also held at Quirino Grandstand to oppose extrajudicial killings and the reimposition of death penalty.  (CBCP)
