The Adoration and prayer vigil took place at the Sao Vicente parish. Bishop Ildo Fortes of the Diocese of Mindelo in Cabo Verde presided over the Eucharist at the pro-cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Luz.

The first day of the World Day of Prayer and Reflection against Trafficking in Persons was held on 8 February 2015.

During this year's commemoration, Maura David, a psychologist of the “Kreditá na bô” – a project run by the Adoration Sisters on the island of São Vicente, spoke about the sad reality of trafficking in human persons. He highlighted the significance of Saint Josephine Bakhita in the fight against Trafficking in Persons.

Integrating and restoring the dignity of enslaved women

The Adoration Sisters on the Island of São Vicente focus on integrating and restoring the dignity of victimised and vulnerable women, just as Jesus Christ himself did during his lifetime.

Every day the Sisters go out to meet exploited women. Through various encounters with marginalised women, the nuns try to restore dignity upon the women they meet. The Sisters also say they allow themselves to be challenged by the situation of many women who are wounded and living in various forms of slavery.

In their own humble way, they say, they aim to make God’s compassion, mercy and unconditional acceptance real and concrete to the women they meet.
